Gable roofs are a great roof type. They are a very functional and cost efficient design. Gable roofs are cheap and simple to design and construct, they shed precipitation easily, and they allow lots of room for attics or other rooms compared to other roof types. Gable roofs are also easy to ventilate because of their simple design. They only have one major flaw, which is that steeply pitched gables are susceptible to wind damage so they aren't the best choice when constructing homes in places with high probabilities of tornadoes and large wind storms. Gable roofs are usually used in areas with a lot of cold weather because they shed snow well which is why they are popular in New England and Northern Europe.
